How Blurry Vision and Headaches May Be Related

Blurry Vision Headache

Have you ever been working on the computer, reading a book, even driving and you begin to get a headache that spreads from your head to your eyes and down your neck? A headache and blurred vision may be interrelated with each other.

Now, every time you get a headache, it does not mean that it is related to your vision, but if you are constantly getting them it may be time to schedule an eye exam. Your headaches can sometime be associated with your eyes changing. So to find out for sure it if is your eyes, going to an optical professional would be a smart decision. Severe headaches are something that should not be taken lightly, you never know if it is something serious, plus ridding yourself of headaches is a definite bonus.

Even though all headaches and blurry vision cannot be associated, the following conditions that usually trigger your headaches can most definitely be associated with your eyes and vision.

  • Migraine Headaches – migraine headaches usually cause immense pain in and around your eyes. What is known as a migraine aura can resemble flashing lights, a vivid rainbow of lights or continuous zig-zags of shimmering lights. The migraine aura can last around 20 minutes. Other side effects that can be caused by a migraine is tingling or numbness of the skin, nausea, vomiting and even light sensitivity. Migraines can be brought about by certain foods, smells, medications, loud noises and bright lights.
  • Eye Strain – from simply overusing the focusing of your eye muscles can lead to eye strain usually resulting in a headache. With technology being used so frequently, the small-screen texting and web browsing can definitely cause strain on your eyes. Your eyes are unable to easily focus on pixels or a multitude of small dots which make up words and images on your computer, so they have to work harder to see the screen clearly. When your eye muscles are doing this constantly and for hours on end, your eye muscles become fatigued and a headache often occurs around or behind the eyes.
  • Farsightedness – People in general who suffer from farsightedness and procrastinate getting it corrected, whether it be by glasses, contacts, or iLasik surgery, often are found complaining about frontal headaches or brow aches. If you are indeed farsighted, you may find it hard to focus on objects that are nearby and can experience eye strain, pain around the eyes, or a headache around the forehead. The headaches will occur due to you overcompensating for your farsightedness by subconsciously focusing even harder.
  • Presbyopia – people around the age of 40 usually begin finding it more difficult to clearly focus on nearby objects. So usual activities such as reading will become blurry and headaches are to follow not far after because of the overcompensating of your eyes due to the lack of focus.
  • Cluster Headaches – Cluster headaches are severe headaches that are associated with pain around the eye that appear in patterns or clusters, hence the name Cluster Headache. These types of headaches can occur often and usually happen daily for several months at a time. It is common for people who suffer from cluster headaches to have them only a couple times a year before disappearing for long periods of time. It has not yet been discovered exactly what causes this type of headache but they are known to be considered one of the most severe headaches to endure. Symptoms for Cluster Headaches are as follows: tearing, nasal drainage, red eyes, eyelid droop, and changes in pupil size.
