EVO ICL, or implantable Collamer Lens, is a refractive implant that can correct prevalent vision issues like astigmatism and nearsightedness. Unlike other vision correction treatments, EVO ICL represents an additive technology that avoids the removal of any corneal tissue and eliminates or reduces the need for using corrective eyewear while still being a removable treatment option.
The lens is made from a biocompatible material called Collamer that works harmoniously with your eye. The EVO ICL lens is intended to correct/reduce nearsightedness between -3.0 and -20.0 D and treat astigmatism from 1.0 D to 4.0 D. If you have nearsightedness within these ranges, EVO ICL surgery may improve your distance vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Because the EVO ICL corrects for distance vision, it does not eliminate the need for reading glasses; you may require them at some point, even if you have never worn them before. In a study of 500 patients who received ICL treatment at Fort Bragg, 98% of patients reported better vision than they had in their glasses previously, and 75% said their vision was better than it had been in their contact lenses. When it comes to overall success rates, the EVO ICL lens ranks relatively high, with a general satisfaction rate of a staggering 99.9%.
While rapid visual recovery is expected after the procedure, it should be emphasized that this procedure is still an intra-ocular surgery and thus carries with it some minor risks. While these rates are speculative and data continues to be reviewed, surgeons believe that the risks of infection are suspected to be approximately 0.07% or 7 out of 10,000 since the age of fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic prophylaxis, which we currently use.
There is a small risk of increased intraocular pressure, for which patients will be closely monitored during the first 24 hours after the procedure. The risk of an extensive course of inflammation is very low. Five-year follow-up data suggest a 1–2% risk of cataract formation, and this data continues to be reviewed as more ICLs are placed.
Dr. Stetson has observed a slightly less than 1% rate of mild cataract formation after placement of more than 100 ICLs over five years. However, he has not had to remove or replace any ICLs that he has implanted.
Eye rubbing or having ICL positioned too close to one’s native lens may increase the risk of cataract formation long term. The team at Diamond Vision will monitor your ICL Lens Position to ensure proper placement to minimize this risk.
Candidates for the EVO ICL are between 21 and 45 years of age, suffer from myopia (nearsightedness), and want to experience superior vision correction. The ideal EVO ICL surgery candidate has not undergone any ophthalmic surgery and has no history of eye diseases such as iritis, glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathy.

As far as discomfort and pain is concerned, most patients state that they are very comfortable throughout the procedure.
